Read, and do nothing, as usual

Let us take a step back to look at last six months and see where we have come to as a society.

First of all there was/is COVID. I won't bother writing anything about it. I will simply state some conclusions

  • You cannot eat your money, you need real food
  • All the weapons in the world cannot save you from COVID
  • You need a balanced society, one that has engineers, architects, school teachers, fire fighters, carpenters, masons... you get it
  • Driving out the "non techies" of the society to perimeter and away is NOT a good idea
Unfortunately in the Silicon Valley bubble, this is exactly what we have created. Our school teachers, masons, fire fighters, gardeners .... you name it .... are  "non techies". So they are driven out to fringes.

Ok, let us take a look at second event. A dry storm hit Silicon Valley, which caused fires. So what are conclusions? Same as before. Replace COVID with FIRE.

  • You cannot eat your money, you need real food
  • All the weapons in the world cannot save you from FIRE
  • You need a balanced society, one that has engineers, architects, school teachers, fire fighters, carpenters, masons... you get it
  • Driving out the "non techies" of the society to perimeter and away is NOT a good idea

I don't know when and how we can create a balanced society where all elements have a place. Corporate greed is replaced by Corporate Greed + Corporate Giving.

Alas. Soon everything will be forgotten. People will immerse themselves with their stock options, money, stock market, greed, competition, corporate politics.....

Therefore the heading. Read, and do nothing, as usual.

  1. Very true, we cringe about it and forget very soon. Life goes back to same what you just mentioned

  2. A beautiful poem written by my friend Joji.

    It was so small,
Only the sharp could see it.
    Some said it’ll be huge,
    So we sharpened ourselves.

Once we started to see it,
    Slowly, it started to grow.
    Surely, more flocked to it.
    Some figured the trick,
    To grow it even faster.
    As growth started to show,
    That became the show.
    As more figured the trick,
    It just grew beyond.

    Sure, it showed cracks,
    Even as it made folks
    Road kill, on its tracks.
    We always feared
    Somehow, some act
    Could ruin it all,
    Until, “too big to fail”,
    Covered that base too.

    It is so huge,
    It’s the only visible thing.
    Granted, the real sharp
    Could see themselves
    Once in a long while.
    It never showed
    Everything shrunk so small,
    While we worked its growth.

  3. Hmmmm Vivek ... we just read, crib and then get back to whatever we were doing. But I am optimistic about some change this time. Just like 2008 financial crisis taught us some lessons about the greed, this time, post Covid, it will leave us a little wiser as a society.
